John McElroy (1846–1929), American printer, soldier, journalist and author, is most known for writing the novel The Red Acorn and his four-volume Andersonville. The book based on the Civil War is The Red Acorn, detailing the First Division of the Fourteenth Army Corps; their emblem the Red Acorn. McElroys anti-Confederate Struggle for Missouri (1909) drew much criticism for its imbalanced views.
